I have always enjoyed drawing and painting from early Childhood, through school and college. Apart from GCSE in art and City and Guild in Watercolour I haven’t had any formal art training. However I read about artists, go to galleries, art holidays and workshops. I now paint and draw whenever I can, mostly landscapes where light, colour and texture acts as a magnet to draw me to a scene. I paint in Oils, Acrylic, Mixed Media and Watercolour.
Many myths and legends surround the ‘Aurora Borealis’ but it was the scientist Pierre Gassendi who named them to describe the luminous electrical radiation from the Northern magnetic Pole. ‘Aurora’ after the Roman Goddess of Dawn and ‘Borealis’ after ‘Boreas’ the Roman God of the North Wind.
My painting take you through the day, where I hope to demonstrate my response to the Aurora Borealis.
‘Dancing Skies’ is a tribute to the Scottish myth of Heavenly Dancers and the Goddess of Dawn showing the fantastic array of colours dancing in a Dawn sky.
‘Early Evening Glow’ reflects the softer qualities of evening where the colours glow in the fading light giving an air of calm and mystery.
