Transformation
1st October-2nd November 2015
Transformation means to change in form, character, appearance or structure. From biological studies of evolution and the mutation of organisms to the inner psychological ‘Transformation of being’; the exhibition seeks to challenge preconceived notions of metamorphosis across all boundaries.
Every work of art starts with the concept of change: whether it is the revelation of a new idea or the transformation of the material itself. Transformation addresses this idea of change, speaking both about the process and inviting the viewer to discover what has been transformed or revealed by the artist.
Many of these artists have taken everyday objects and transformed them into mysterious and playful works of art, challenging viewers to expand their thinking about what can be used as an art material. Issues of the work centre around physical modifications to spiritual, emotional and psychological transformations.
The exhibition provides a thought provoking look at the conceptions of contemporary art and it aims to transform the view of the public about what art is and can be.
